Harvest View Stables Day Camps During the school year, we offer a number of one-day camps during school holidays. Campers have the opportunity to spend the day at the barn or on field trips to various horse-related destinations.
Dates for the 2010 one-day camps. Thanksgiving Camp - November 26 Jingle Bell Camp - December 29
Dates for 2010 multi-day camps: Horse Care Camp - June 28-30 Horse Care Camp - August 23-25 Day camp hours are 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Campers should pack a lunch and come with a change of clothes in case they don't want to wear their riding clothes for the entire day. Cost is $80/day
Registration forms must be accompanied by a $50 non-refundable deposit. The balance will be due the first day of camp. No session will be held unless we have a minimum of five students.
All one-day camps run from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. unless otherwise noted, and will include a riding lesson, a lecture and a hands-on activity. Students should pack a lunch and bring a change of clothes. If necessary, we may offer an extra-hours program at an additional cost.
All multi-day camps run from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
Fun Show Camp- (limited to 10 campers) (suitable for beginner through advanced riders) $225/student This camp will focus on the ins and outs of horse showing. Students will learn horse show etiquette, proper turnout, grooming and braiding techniques, and safe travel procedures. Campers will build and personalize a jump to be added to the HVS jump collection and used at our fun shows. Additionally, campers will plan a HVS fun show to be held the Saturday following camp. HVS horse show entry fee is included in camp tuition fee. (Off site showing is not required.)
Cross-Country Riding Camp - (limited to six campers) (suitable for advanced riders) $240/student This camp will focus on cross-country riding, including trail etiquette, safety when riding in groups outside the ring, traffic laws for riders, and will discuss fox-hunting and eventing. Riders will practice riding outside the ring, and weather permitting, will go on an off-site trail ride on the last day of camp. Riders must be able to halt from a walk, trot and canter in the arena to be eligible to attend this camp.
Horse Care Camp - (limited to 10 campers) (suitable for beginner through advanced riders) $225/student This camp will focus on first aid, handling veterinary emergencies and on various horse management skills including nutrition, pasture management and general safety. We will have lectures and demonstrations by equine professionals, including an equine masseuse and a farrier. This camp will be a great opportunity to learn about all the aspects of caring for a horse. (Horse owner wannabes take note...this one's for you!)
Which camps should I choose? Check these guidelines...
Beginner Camps Beginners should be six years and older and should have had at least three riding lessons prior to participating in camp.
Intermediate/Advanced Camps Intermediate riders should be at least eight years old and should be able to walk and trot ground poles and cross rails. Advanced riders should be at least ten years old, and should be able to walk, trot, canter and jump a course of cross rails.
